Freweini Mebrahtu has been named a 2019 CNN Hero!
Each year, CNN honors a select handful of everyday people for their creative, selfless efforts to help others. Because nominations for the CNN Hero award come from more than 100 countries around the world, it’s truly an opportunity to recognize meaningful work on a global scale.
This year, CNN is recognizing Freweini, Dignity Period’s inspiration and partner, as a 2019 Hero!

St. Louis Period Poverty Outreach
Did you know that 46% of low-income women in St. Louis, MO have had to choose between food and menstrual hygiene products? Working with other St. Louis partners, Dignity Period is using our experience in Ethiopia to combat period poverty a little closer to home. We’re providing pad kits and education to women throughout the community as part of a pilot project to understand the potential impact of this type of outreach.

Back to School Campaign – starting September 3, 2019
Our Shameless Back to School Campaign brings awareness to menstrual health as a global issue and raises funds to meet the menstrual health needs of schoolgirls in Ethiopia. Watch Facebook and Instagram for a chance to share this campaign with your network and help us shatter period stigma.

Celebrating our Team on the Frontline of Dignity
During a recent visit to Ethiopia, Founders Lewis and Helen Wall, and Executive Director, Angie Wiseman, took time to recognize the amazing team of individuals who make Dignity Period’s mission possible.
The Dignity Period Project team is responsible for the regional outreach in Ethiopia. They manage the inventory, organize distribution, and coordinate education. They are the face of the organization, and we couldn’t do it without them.
